What root canal treatment is
Inside every tooth there is soft tissue, the pulp, containing the nerve and blood vessels. When deep decay, a fracture or an injury affects it, you get pain, lingering sensitivity or an infection at the root.
Root canal treatment removes that damaged tissue, cleans and disinfects the canals inside the root and seals them. The tooth stops hurting and is kept.
Who it is for
For anyone with intense or spontaneous pain in a tooth, sensitivity that does not go away, an abscess or an infection visible on an X-ray. Also when a badly damaged tooth needs rebuilding and the nerve is compromised.
A root-treated tooth is more fragile; in many cases it is best protected afterwards with a filling or a crown, and we will advise you.
How we do it at the clinic
It is carried out by Dr Celia Ruiz Sánchez, endodontist, under local anaesthetic; the treatment is not painful and is usually completed in one or two visits depending on the tooth.
We then check healing at your follow-up visits. You receive a competitive quote, in writing and by email, before we start, and everything is explained in English.
