How it works
During sleep the jaw and tongue relax and can narrow the airway: that causes snoring and, in some cases, pauses in breathing (apnoea). A mandibular advancement splint fits over the teeth and holds the lower jaw slightly forward, so the throat stays clearer.
It is a discreet, custom-made, adjustable device worn only for sleeping.
Who it is for
For habitual snorers and for patients with mild or moderate sleep apnoea, or who cannot tolerate other treatments, whenever a sleep specialist recommends it.
Sleep apnoea is a medical condition: if you suspect you have it, the first step is a sleep study. We work in coordination with your doctor and fit the splint when it is indicated.
How we do it at the clinic
Dr Marina García Selva looks after these treatments. We assess the teeth, gums and jaw joint to confirm that a splint is suitable, take the measurements and adjust it gradually over several visits until we find the comfortable, effective position.
We then see you for regular check-ups to review the fit and the condition of your teeth. You receive a competitive quote, in writing and by email, before we start, and everything is explained in English.
